Kids got moves

It’s interesting how all of your friends relocate after they receive a degree. In fact, throughout most of our lives, every time a new educational level is reached, there seems to be a certain form of separation, at least physical, in friendly relationships.

This particular short story is about a boy named Mirabito. However, Mirabito’s story is quite different from that of your typical “Mancini” or “Hyder.” It is imperative that readers understand Mirabito’s early years in order to fully comprehend why he is the way he is today.

As an adolescent, Mirabito spent much of time indulging in activities that displayed properties of what your typical 25 year old would be doing. For instance, when Mirabito was only 3, he was counting his fathers money as he watched his dad file tax returns. By the time he was 6, Mirabito was already dipping his fingers into the well known family business, Mirabito Fuel Group. Shortly, he learned how to apply past revenues to future goals and sales pricing. By the time he was 8, he suggested ideas of expansion and renewal.

Those affiliated with the family questioned the boy’s behavior, claiming it was unhealthy and “un-childlike” for him to be performing these calculations and business transactions at such an early age. They wanted Mirabito to experience his youth as any other child would. In fact, his father tried so hard to get Mirabito into baseball and soccer that he would go out of his way to explain the physics of a ball and how it worked. His father knew that Mirabito was a fan of balls and spheres; hence the physics lessons.

Mirabito began following his father to work, dresser in similar attire (Full business suit accompanied with a sharp pair of sunglasses (Oakley)). Unaware of his son’s presence, father Mirabito would continue his daily routine as any other Mirabito businessman would while young Mirabito, only 9, watched intently. The fellow workers paid no attention to the small, portly 4’1” midget-like business man walking around shouting numbers into a cell phone. Those who did witness this kept their mouth shut in fear of losing their job. Nonetheless, Mirabito went unnoticed.

In fact, Mirabito continued with this very behavior up until the age of 14, when it was legal for the company to hire him. Pursuing what everyone thought to be his dream, Mirabito continued to work for the family company until it was time for him to transition into college.

Much like David, Mirabito had a hard time adjusting to this new environment filled with kids who loved to party and do “normal” things. He spent most of his time locked in his dorm room while parties flourished. Every so often, he enjoyed a good techno song while drinking a cold glass of Guinness.

One cold winter evening, Mancini entered the room where Mirabito slept, ate, and danced, and bodly stated “get your coat on, we’re going out tonight!” Mirabito simply perked his head up, smirked in a weird awkward fashion, and laid back down. Upset at this, Mancini went into his dresser and began shuffling around his underwear. Minutes later, he pulled out his beloved camera. Determined to awaken Mirabito from his lazy slumber, Mancini began taping the boy and whistling for him to dance. Mirabito was unresponsive for quite some time. It was disappointing to see this young boy at his prime sitting around making gay faces.

There had to be something that could make Mirabito want to be young again, some sort of trigger or spark that could ignite his flames of youth and heterosexuality; but neither Mancini nor Mr. Hyder could figure it out. Something had to be done, somebody had to figure out a way to breathe life back into Mirabito’s pour soul.

As Mancini went to put the camera away, the door handled wiggled a bit and the sound of old wood creaking filled the quiet room. Mancini’s look of disdain for the boy disappeared when he saw Weitzman enter the room. There was a twinkling in this boy’s eye that reminded him of a time when a certain video game was released. He knew then that this was the answer. Mirabito, who still had the same strange look upon his face sprung to his feet! He quickly swept pass Mancini much like superman would have and sat down as his computer. Without warning, a song came on at a volume so loud it almost pierced Mr. Hyder’s eardrums in the room next door. The walls were shaking and the melody of Frankie J and baby bash had filled the 144ft square area. Mirabito stood in excitement and began to dance in a manor so gay that Lance from N’sync would have been ashamed. Before he could say a word, Weitzman began to do the same. Mancini didn’t understand the meaning of this behavior but surely accepted it as he felt that finally Mirabito’s youth had been discovered. Mancini went on to tape the event in hopes reliving that day again.

Mirabito went on to graduate college and become a successful sales partner in his fathers company. After having moved to a small town, he settled down into a comfortable establishment and to this day continues to make awkward jerky movements in the presence of other straight men.
